Alaska
Shotokan Karate is
an amateur non-profit sports association dedicated to the
practice of traditional Japanese karate. The basic objective
is to provide its members a means of developing and strengthening
both physically and mentally. To attain this goal, Shotokan Karate
adheres to the same high standards and principles set forth by Master
Gichin Funakoshi. The guiding principles are Character, Sincerity,
Effort, Etiquette, and Self-Control.
Classes
are sponsored by the International Shotokan Karate Federation.
Classes are available for many levels and age groups.
Lil'
Tigers PeeWee classes are for children 4 - 6 years old.
Classes meet once a week at $40.00 per month. Classes include
basic karate skills, listening skills games, tumbling and obstacle
courses.
Youth
classes are for ages 6 - 11 years. Separate classes for
beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. Becky Hesser
(3rd degree black belt) is the director of the youth
program. $55.00/month.
Teen/Adult
classes are for 12 years - adults. Separate classes
for beginning and intermediate/advanced levels are offered
several
times a week. Monthly fees for youth and teen/adult classes
are $55.00 per month (family rates available). Lynette
Nakazawa (4th degree black belt) is the director of the
adult program.
Special
Needs Karate is a class designed for teens and adults who have developmental
delays. $40.00/month.
Yearly
federation dues of $35.00 plus $25.00 annual AMAC fee will also
be required.
(Fees are pro-rated if you begin in September).
Seibukan
Jujutsu: Seibukan Jujutsu is an effective and practical
martial art for self-defense as well as personal growth. The
art uses pressure points, escapes, throws, chokes and grappling
techniques with major emphasis on evasive strategies and
joint locks. Open to teens and adults at $45.00/month
with a one-time International Seibukan Jujutsu Association
fee of $55.00. AMAC registration $25.00.
Tai
Chi / Kung Fu: Classes for teens and adults taught by Aaron Roberts.
